Fifth Edition
The story of Jesus starts long before his birth. He was with God before God made the earth. And the sun and the air, the land and the seas. The animals, plants, the birds and the bees.
God’s favorite creation was woman and man. People he'd love with a wonderful plan. They’d love God too, making His creation complete. In His eyes, it was so perfect and sweet.
In the Garden of Eden there was food all around. Anything you needed grew from the ground. But God gave the first people one simple rule. Don't eat from this tree, it’s not good for you.
But the fruit looked tasty, so they took a big bite. They disobeyed God - that’s wrong and not right. Because they didn't listen, they couldn't stay. They had to leave the Garden that very day.
After that, sin became worse and worse. There was nowhere to go when a flood washed the earth.
The water destroyed everything in it. That stopped sin, but just for a minute.
People didn’t learn the mistakes of the last. They disobeyed God, repeating the past. God loved his children, so he gave a clear plan. Ten simple rules they could understand.
He etched them in stone for all to see. So easy to read, as clear could be. Made so we can know God’s way. Even still, people did not obey.
The flood and the rules didn't change people's hearts. So, God pulled out the plan that he had from the start. He’d send someone to save us from sin and bring forth. The Kingdom of Heaven right here on the Earth.
He would reveal that God's existence is true. And how much God loves me and you. He would teach us how to pray. And how to live in a holy way.
God told the world of his plan long before. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born. He told the prophets of one that would come. To show the way to God’s kingdom.
They shared what God told, brazen and bold. Preparing the world for what would unfold. So, when Jesus came, they weren’t surprised. The one that was promised had finally arrived.
God chose Mary to bring His Son to life. Born in a barn, under a star so bright. 3 wise men came from afar just to see. The one God promised would set us free.
They brought gifts of perfumes and gold. To honor the Savior that God foretold. That’s why we give presents on Christmas morn. To celebrate the day Jesus was born.
Jesus could have come to earth like a king. With trumpets, parades and choirs that sing. Instead he lived in a small house outside the city. With his family and friends, puppies and kitties.
He went to school and did his chores. He played with friends and explored outdoors. Jesus did all the things that you do. This is why Jesus understands you.
Young Jesus studied scripture, every page he read. To know what was written, not just what was said. He spent time at the temple to learn all he could. Asking many questions, so he understood.
Teachers were amazed by the wisdom he showed. They had never seen such a smart 12-year-old. Jesus loved learning, growing wiser each day. Preparing to show the world God's Way.
John preached to crowds across the land. They thought he was the one God planned. He said, 'someone will soon come who is greater than I'. 'Whose shoes I am unworthy to untie'.
John was shocked - ‘you want ME to baptize YOU?’ Jesus said, ‘Yes, you made the way for what I will do. John dipped Jesus, then the heavens opened above. A voice was heard: ‘my Son, you are loved’.
Jesus began to teach, he preached for all to hear: He said 'Repent, for God's Kingdom is near. Turn to God and know that He is within. Put him first in your heart, turn away from sin.'
He said to ‘treat others how they should treat you. Love your neighbor, it's the right thing to do. Forgive and you will be forgiven too, Love others as I have loved you.’
Jesus message spread, then it caught fire. When people believed he was the Messiah. Excitement exploded as they were informed. Of the amazing miracles that he performed.
He walked on water, brought sight to the blind. Calmed the storm, turned water into wine. Fed 5000 from a few loaves of bread. Healed the sick and brought life to the dead.
The miracles amazed and the news spread. The Messiah had come as the prophets had said. The crowds to see him grew and grew. To hear the heavenly things that he knew:
‘Transform your mind, you are divine! You’re a child of God with a perfect design. God is within you, there you will find. You are the light of the world, let it shine!'
In the Temple, rabbis got rich; every rule had a price. Break one, then you pay them for an animal sacrifice. Jesus said, "God desires mercy; go learn what this means. You’ve turned a house of prayer into a den of thieves."
Jesus sent out the sellers with a righteous rage. He untied all the oxen and opened every cage. The doves flew free and the lambs ran out the door. He turned over tables, their money on the floor.
Temple leaders didn't take to Jesus' growing fame. Their money and their power were slipping away. Jesus showed the way to God and eternal life. Didn't require their rituals, rules, or rites.
Just love God and all He made with a heart that is kind. And do good works for others to let God’s love shine. Jesus was bad for business, the rabbis all agreed. To have Jesus killed, all because of greed.
Jesus was arrested, mocked, beaten and scorned. Nailed to a cross, with a crown made of thorns. But Jesus wasn’t mad, no anger in his heart. He knew the state of his fate from the very start.
Jesus forgave the very ones who put him on the cross. It was the last lesson that Jesus ever taught. The earth shook and the sky went dark, little time was left. Jesus said, ‘it is finished’, and took his final breath.
The story isn’t over.
Here’s a big surprise.
It’s a happy ending.
Because Jesus is alive!
Three days later Jesus appeared to those that he loved. It proved love conquers all, a gift from God above. He gave his life, taught what was right to heal our souls within. That’s why we celebrate Easter: Jesus’ spirit lives!
Jesus told his disciples to share this good news far and wide. He said, 'I am with you always, until the end of time'. His mission was complete, his purpose fulfilled and then. Jesus ascended into Heaven, to be with God again.
Jesus came to save those with ears to hear. Who have loving hearts, humble and sincere. Those who keep his commandments are Jesus’ friends. It’s the perfect path to God, whose love never ends.
Eternal life is yours if you trust in Jesus Christ. If you follow what he taught and how he lived his life. This is the greatest gift that there’s ever been. But the choice is yours. Will you follow him?
